His and Her Pillowcases for your Valentine

These pillowcases are so nice and will last for many years because they are so well made.  I make them for my grandchildren and they love them.  You can use all sorts of theme fabrics that match their personalities but I have been saving some of this timeless fabric for a few years that matches a beautiful quilted bedspread that was made for me by one of my talented sister in laws.  I can hardly wait to show these to my husband on Valentine's Day. Here is how you do it.
1- you need 3 coordinating fabrics.
Band- 1/3 yard by width of fabric for each piece (42")
Body 3/4 yard and
Trim 3 inches
1- Lay the band our face up\2-lay the body fabric face up on top of the Band piece matching the top seams
3-fold the 3" piece in half length wise and press it.  and lay it on top of the body piece matching the top seams so all three pieces are matching at the top seam.

Now fold up the body piece loosely and bring the bottom edge of the band up to meet the top seam with the body piece rolled up inside. Sew one seam  along the top.  You have 1- band, 2-Body-3-Trim and 4-the bottom otf the band all layered together.  Sew the seam

Now reach inside and turn the fabric and unfold it.

Here is what you get.  A flat opened up pillowcase.

Now fold the case together matching the top and side seams and stitch them with the seam on the outside (you are going to make a very nice finished seam called a "French Seam")

Now turn it wrong side out and press the end and side seams flat.  Make sure you get the seam to the edge.  You might press the seam open first and then fold and press again.

Here it is.  Isn't that so neat?  It will look beautiful and stay so nice through hundreds of washings.
Next I did the appliques.  I have not done it for a very long time but it was not hard and it was really fun.  I just picked a font on my computer (I used Print Shop but you can just use any word program) and printed it out large.  You want something that will fill in nicely.  Then I cut them out and used them as patterns and followed the directions that come with the "Wonder Under".
